Year	Details
1950	Township of Etobicoke Public Library agrees to offer $7,410 to Kingsway Baptist Church to purchase “land having a frontage of about Ninety feet (90’) on the southerly side of Birchview Boulevard by a depth of about One Hundred and Eighteen Feet (118’) on the easterly [sic, westerly] side of Brentwood Road” as the site for its main library, 1 December. The sale is completed on 6 July 1951.
1951	A bookmobile stop is provided at the corner of Brentwood and Birchview each Saturday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
1953	Arthur H. Eadie is officially appointed as the architect, May.
1954	Library Board requests Etobicoke Township Council to issue debentures of $185,000 to build the library on Brentwood, May.
1955	Main Library opens on 20 July and officially opens on 28 September. Etobicoke Public Library’s headquarters, including administration, technical services, and the bookmobile office, are transferred here from their former location in the Humber Bay Library building on Park Lawn Road.
1961	Bookmobile office and storage are relocated to rented quarters at 4896 Dundas Street West, when a second bookmobile is purchased; they are moved to the new Richview Library in 1966.
1964	Technical Services Division moved to offices on Dundas Street near Burnhamthorpe Road, moving to the new Richview Library in 1966.
1966	Etobicoke Public Library’s main library and administrative offices are relocated to the new Richview Library, officially opened 16 October. Brentwood is reorganized as a district library.
1970	Alterations by Dunlop, Wardell, Matsui and Aitken, architects engineers & planners. The old Technical Services area in the basement is converted into a reading room and an enclosed staircase is added to connect the new room with the reference area on the main floor.
1971	Shut-In Service for Etobicoke Public Libraries is located here.
1988	Closed for retrofit, 4 July. Joseph Gerskup, Architect.
1989	Reopened 13 March.
2007	New hours, 8 January. Hours open per week increased from 58 to 63.
2010	Closed for major renovation and expansion by Diamond & Schmitt, Architects, 25 September.
2012	Reopened, 2 November. Brentwood Branch history panel (PDF).

Brentwood is on Indigenous land. The Anishinaabemowin (Ah-nish-nah-be-mo-win) name for this area is Adobigok (ah-doh-bih-gok), which means the Place of the Alders.

This is the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee (ho-den-oh-sho-nee) Confederacy (aka. the Six Nations Confederacy), the Wendat, and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. Toronto Public Library gratefully acknowledges these Indigenous nations for their guardianship of this land. The Six Nations Confederacy), the Anishinaabek (Ah-nish-nah-bek) and allied nations, to peaceably share and care for this land, its waters, and all of the biodiversity in the Great Lakes region.
