History

Year	Details
1922	An Association Public Library is organized at Scarboro Bluffs, 20 February.
1936	After several years of inactivity, Scarboro Bluffs is removed from the provincial list of association public libraries.
1956	Bookmobile stop is established near Stop 21 on Kingston Road at Fenwood Heights by the Township of Scarborough Public Library Board. It also plans to open a branch library to serve the "thickly populated section of Cliffside in the south".
1970	Scarborough Public Library Board approves "in principle the establishment of a branch library in the Cliffcrest Plaza dependent on the availability of funds", 19 February.
1972	Branch opens at Cliffcrest Plaza (2977 Kingston Road), 2 October.
1985	Retrofitted, Spring.
1994	New hours, 4 January. Hours open per week are decreased from 47 to 40.
1998	Becomes part of the Toronto Public Library with municipal amalgamation, 1 January.
2001	Refurbished.
2007	New hours, 8 January. Number of open hours per week unchanged.
2008	Closes, 1 March and relocates to a larger unit in Cliffcrest Plaza (3017 Kingston Road); reopens on 3 April. McKinnon Design. It is Toronto Public Library's first "browsing branch" with open-facing shelving (similar to retail stores) to display popular books, magazines, and audio-visual materials and reading lounges to browse items. Cliffcrest Branch history panel (PDF).

Cliffcrest is on Indigenous land. This is the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee (ho-den-oh-sho-nee) Confederacy (aka. the Six Nations Confederacy), the Wendat, and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. Toronto Public Library gratefully acknowledges these Indigenous nations for their guardianship of this land. We'd also like to remind and reaffirm, as Torontonians and Canadians, our accountability to these Indigenous nations, and to all Indigenous peoples and communities living in Toronto.

This land is also part of the Dish with One Spoon territory, a treaty between the Haudenosaunee Confederacy (aka. The Six Nations Confederacy), the Anishinaabek (Ah-nish-nah-bek) and allied nations, to peaceably share and care for this land, its waters, and all of the biodiversity in the Great Lakes region.
